The 1 x 4 classroom block will double the current classroom space
Large eave and roof ridge vents creating continuous air circulation to promote natural ventilation
Building location creates an open courtyard that protects the area from dusty winds and creates a safe schoolyard for games and activities
A wide covered outdoor area will encourage breezes to move around the building and provide a cool place to gather or hold small informal classes
Large overhangs protect the building from heat gain during the hottest parts of the day
Vine planters further shade the building and bring some “green-ness” to an otherwise dusty courtyard
Thick mud brick walls will insulate the interior from the
inside out, keeping the building cool during the day and warm
at night
The large classrooms with adjoining vestibules allow teachers to better monitor the students and give them offices to plan their lessons and store materials
South facing skylights provide diffuse daylighting to allows for better visibility
A large teacher’s room provides a meeting place for the staff and place for formal meetings with parents and school committees
Oriented East-West to take advantage of natural daylighting
